Health Equity in GI
Disparities in GI care outcomes are significant and require systematic intervention. The session covers colorectal cancer screening disparities (African American, Hispanic, Native American, rural populations), hepatitis C elimination equity and access to DAAs in Medicaid populations, IBD care access barriers, language and cultural barriers in GI care delivery, and implementation science approaches to close gaps. Discussion addresses food-insecurity screening in IBD and chronic GI conditions, the role of community health workers and patient navigators, LGBTQ+ GI care disparities including anal cancer screening, structural racism in GI training and workforce, and equity-focused outcome measures beyond simple access metrics.
