Bariatric & Metabolic Endoscopy

Endoscopic bariatric procedures offer a non-surgical option for obesity treatment with growing evidence base. The session covers endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG, the MERIT pivotal trial), intragastric balloons (Orbera, Spatz3, Reshape), transoral outlet reduction (TORe) for weight regain after gastric bypass, ESG integration with GLP-1 pharmacotherapy, long-term durability data, and patient-selection criteria. Discussion addresses the cost-effectiveness comparison with bariatric surgery, ESG in patients with BMI 30-40, EBMT in adolescents (the controversial frontier), reimbursement and coverage landscape, and the integration of EBMT into multidisciplinary obesity-management clinics including pharmacotherapy and lifestyle support.
